The Takigawa River, flowing through Akamecho in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, is home to many waterfalls along its upstream valley, collectively known as the "Akame 48 Waterfalls." Since ancient times, this area has been regarded as a sacred site, serving as an energy spot for monks and ninjas to practice. There is a trail approximately 3.3 kilometers long surrounding the waterfalls. During the roughly 3-hour hike, there are 23 named waterfalls to see. Each waterfall has its own unique features worth admiring, and the five waterfalls known as the "Akame Five Waterfalls" are particularly not to be missed. The surrounding natural scenery is stunning, allowing visitors to enjoy seasonal views such as fresh greenery and autumn leaves. From autumn to winter, the waterfalls and bamboo crafts are illuminated at night, creating a dreamlike scene as they sparkle in the darkness. Near the trail entrance, there are paid facilities such as the "Japanese Giant Salamander Center," which showcases the special natural monument, the Japanese giant salamander, that inhabits the Takigawa River, and "Ninja no Mori," where visitors can experience various ninja training activities. Additionally, eco-tours exploring the natural beauty of Akame are held periodically.
