*Closed until July 24, 2025.* Before the completion of the current Hokkaido Government Office building 80 years ago, this site served as the administrative center and hub of the Hokkaido government. The old building, nicknamed the "Red Brick Office," is constructed from approximately 2.5 million red bricks and showcases its history and charm through features like curved glass and American Baroque architectural style. Next to the Red Brick Office, there are the remnants of the Hokkaido Development Commission Office, which played a significant role in the early Meiji period in the development and colonization of Hokkaido. Through foreign advisors like Horace Capron, technologies in agriculture, industry, and railway construction were introduced. The old Hokkaido Government Office is renowned for its rich natural surroundings, offering beautiful views of cherry blossoms and lilacs in spring, lush greenery in summer, and autumn leaves in fall, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing beauty of the seasons. Additionally, the front garden features flowers like tulips and a pond, creating a picturesque scene.
