🗺️ Kyoto Ceramic Art Museum

📝 Introduction

A facility that allows for an in-depth experience of the beauty of Kyoto traditional crafts, "Kyoto ware (Kyo-yaki) and Kiyomizu-yaki."

📖 Details

At the foot of Kiyomizu Temple and along Higashiyama Gojō, this area is known as the capital of the traditional craft "Kyoto ware - Kiyomizu ware." Countless ceramics have been produced here for over 400 years. Many ceramic artists and kiln workshops can still be found near Gojōzaka. The "Kyoto Ceramic Museum" is located at the entrance of the mountain. This facility was formerly known as "Kururu Gojōzaka," and it was renovated in 2012 to be reactivated with the purpose of introducing, promoting, displaying, and selling "Kyoto ware - Kiyomizu ware." The building, with its glass curtain walls, shines a light on the ceramics, allowing visitors to appreciate the works in a comfortable atmosphere. On the first floor, the shop not only displays and sells works from Kyoto artists and kilns but also features special project areas and practical exhibition spaces. Here, various themed works are showcased and sold, including pieces with delicate illustrations, fashionable designs commonly found in daily life, and clear and translucent celadon, white porcelain, and avant-garde three-dimensional works. On the second floor, the gallery hosts solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and work showcases organized by artists and kilns (with exhibits generally changing every two weeks, and items available for purchase on-site). Exhibitions feature not only Kyoto artists but also ceramicists from various regions dedicated to their craft, allowing for close-up appreciation of the works. Through actual viewing and interaction, visitors can deeply experience the charm of "Kyoto ware - Kiyomizu ware."
