📝 Introduction
A roadside rest area that offers everything from Uonuma Koshihikari rice to local specialty products.
📖 Details
On National Route 252, which connects Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture, there is a roadside rest area in the old Hirabayashi district of Uonuma City, known as the "Wild Vegetable Republic." In the souvenir shop area, a variety of rich local specialties are sold, including seasonal wild vegetables, locally grown vegetables, and sake made from Uonuma's Koshihikari rice, such as "Kihachi" and "Manki." Among these, the most famous is Uonuma Koshihikari rice "Sogoro." The "Sogoro" stored in a snow room maintains its deliciousness throughout the year. There are also popular products like rice balls made from "Sogoro," hand-grilled senbei, and the snowman-shaped rice dumplings "Sasa Yuki Yuki" that are bestsellers.
Next to it, at the "Kagami Pond Restaurant," you can enjoy handmade soba noodles, pressed sushi, and set meals featuring a large amount of wild vegetables. There is also an all-you-can-eat burdock soba noodle option available on weekdays (reservation required) for those interested to try. During the winter closure, dining is available inside the roadside rest area (menu items vary).
The Kagami Pond within the premises allows free fishing. There is a 1-kilometer walking path around the pond, perfect for a leisurely stroll while enjoying the forest bath.
