🗺️ Mitsuhashi Shrine (Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture)

📝 Introduction

The shrine dedicated to the "God of Resurrection" is a must-visit, along with the Autumn Grand Festival and the beautiful御朱印 (Goshuin).

📖 Details

The shrine is dedicated to the first lord of the Yanagawa domain, the Warring States general Tachibana Muneshige, known as the "Strongest Warrior of the West," along with his legal wife, Princess Kinchiyo, and his father-in-law, Tōkitsu Dōsetsu. Yanagawa Muneshige lost his territory during the Battle of Sekigahara and temporarily withdrew from Yanagawa, but later returned as the lord of Yanagawa. Among the warlords who regained their status as daimyō, Yanagawa is the only one who recovered his former territory, thus being revered as the "God of Resurrection," capable of granting prayers for victory, achievement, and revival, and is deeply respected by the people. The "Oshinjikai," which attracts large crowds every year, originated in the Edo period as an autumn festival to thank the deities for a bountiful harvest. During the festival, the "Mikoshi Parade" is held, where the procession is led by a float accompanied by music and dance performances, followed by the "Dorotsukudon," an intangible folk cultural asset of Fukuoka Prefecture, and other parade floats, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the town. The most popular offerings at this shrine are the diverse types of goshuin (temple seals). In addition to the standard designs, there are seasonal limited edition goshuin featuring illustrations of flowers and trees, as well as cut-paper goshuin depicting the unique landscapes of Yanagawa.
