🗺️ Lake Abashiri

Abashiri Lake, located on the southwest side of Abashiri City, is a lagoon with a circumference of 43 kilometers, offering various activities to experience throughout the year. There is a 7-kilometer-long walking trail that is perfect for strolling and birdwatching, allowing visitors to observe various wild birds resting by the lake. From late April to early May, the white flowers of the skunk cabbage adorn the beautiful scenery of the lake, providing a refreshing sight. In summer, there are water activities such as kayaking and boating, and many people camp by the lakeside. In autumn, the surrounding forests are painted in autumn colors, making it a great spot for viewing the fall foliage. Among the many activities, the most famous is ice fishing for whitefish in winter. Fishing rods, tackle, and bait can be rented, and complete equipment is available for easy enjoyment of ice fishing. Not only that, but the caught whitefish can also be prepared on-site as tempura. Cooking utensils, oil, and tempura batter can be rented as well. The taste of freshly caught whitefish that you catch yourself is sure to be unforgettable.

There are various activities to experience throughout the four seasons. The most famous activity is winter fishing for "公魚" (goby). The caught gobies can be made into tempura on-site for enjoyment.
