🗺️ Noboribetsu Hell Valley
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
A scenic spot that emits white smoke and gushes hot water, resembling a scene from hell.
📖 Details
The famous tourist attraction in Noboribetsu, "Jigokudani" (Hell Valley), is a volcanic crater formed during the eruption of Mount Hiyori. This valley, with a diameter of 450 meters and an area of about 11 hectares, remains quite active to this day and is the source of Noboribetsu Onsen, with a daily flow of up to 10,000 tons of hot spring water.
The exposed rock surfaces feature multiple hot spring outlets and fumaroles, creating a scene reminiscent of hell with white smoke billowing up. There are walking paths nearby, and a full loop takes about 20 minutes, allowing visitors to closely observe the gushing hot springs and the flowing thermal waters. If time permits, it is recommended to start from the "Noboribetsu Park Service Center," which offers sightseeing services and sells souvenirs, passing through "Jigokudani" to reach the natural foot bath at Oyunuma River, with the entire journey taking about 2 hours.
In summer, the fresh greenery, and in autumn, the surrounding rowan trees and birches turn red, creating a striking contrast with the scenery of Jigokudani. The winter snow scene, with rocks covered in layers of white snow, is also stunning. The illuminated walking paths at night appear even more dreamlike.
