The railway line running along the Sanriku Coast in Iwate Prefecture. Opened in 1984 as a third-sector line, it is known as the first public enterprise in the country to be operated using private sector vitality. The Sanriku Railway has only the Arisu Line, which is affectionately nicknamed "San-tetsu" by the local population. It connects from Kuji Station to Ofunato's Mori Station, with a total length of 163 kilometers, making it the longest third-sector railway in Japan. Along the route, passengers can see the unique steep cliffs of the bay-type coastline through the train windows, as well as bridges offering views of the ever-changing Sanriku seascape, making it a favorite among tourists.
