From the observation deck at the summit, you can enjoy views of Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima, Kinko Bay, and the cityscape, with the night view being particularly enchanting. Despite its proximity to the city, it is a natural treasure trove filled with temperate and subtropical plants such as giant camphor trees, ferns, and coral trees. It was designated as a national natural monument and historic site in 1931. There are walking trails that allow visitors to leisurely enjoy nature as if taking a stroll. This small hill is located behind "Tsurumaru Castle," built in the 17th century, which is why it is named "Shiroyama." It bears witness to the evolution of Kagoshima's history and holds significant historical value. It is also the site of the conclusion of Japan's last civil war, the "Seinan War," featuring historical sites such as the cave where Saigo Takamori passed away and the stone monument of the main camp ruins, making it a favorite among history enthusiasts.
