📝 Introduction
Cuiyuan Grassland and the magical drifting ice are popular attractions with breathtaking views to enjoy throughout the year.
📖 Details
Cape Notoro is a cliff that juts out into the Sea of Okhotsk, standing 40 to 50 meters high. The name "Notoro" comes from the Ainu language, meaning "land of the cape."
Cape Notoro is renowned as one of the most stunning scenic spots in Abashiri, with the Sea of Okhotsk to the north and the Shiretoko mountain range to the east, offering beautiful views that change with the time of day, including sunsets and starry skies. The tip of the cape, where a lighthouse was built in 1917, has turned into a grassland, allowing visitors to admire various beautiful wildflowers such as Ezo lily and beach pear. One can also see the cows and horses leisurely grazing at the nearby Abashiri City-run Misaki Ranch.
In winter, the appearance of Cape Notoro changes dramatically. From late January to early March, the surrounding sea is covered with drift ice that has floated over from Sakhalin, Russia. The grandeur of nature in this setting is breathtaking. With such beautiful scenery throughout the year, it has also become a popular location for many advertisements and film shoots.
