🗺️ Statue of Takeda Shingen

📝 Introduction

The symbol of Yamanashi Prefecture, Kofu! Let's take a commemorative photo with the statue of Takeda Shingen!

📖 Details

Takeda Shingen is one of the representative military commanders of the Sengoku period and an indispensable figure in Japanese history. He ruled over Kai Province (now Yamanashi Prefecture) and left behind many legends and anecdotes. The statue was erected in 1969 by the citizens to honor Shingen's great achievements. Since then, it has become a local symbol, and a special cleanup is conducted every December, which is highly regarded by the community. The statue is modeled after Shingen during the "Battle of Kawanakajima," where he faced his arch-rival Uesugi Kenshin. His imposing figure holds a military staff and prayer beads, exuding a dignified presence. The statue, including its pedestal, stands about 6.2 meters tall, and when viewed up close, one may be overwhelmed by its massive size. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom on both sides of the statue, making it an excellent spot for tourists to take photos with the majestic Shingen. The location is right in front of Kofu Station, so don't forget to stop by for a photo when you exit.
