The expansive Kōyama Park has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Historical Parks in Japan." Within the park, there are several historic sites, including the National Treasure, the Five-Story Pagoda, which is scattered throughout the area. The most noteworthy National Treasure is the "Rurikō-ji Five-Story Pagoda," which is the tenth oldest existing five-story pagoda in Japan. Its elegant cypress bark roof is listed as one of the "Three Great Pagodas of Japan," and it is considered the finest architecture from the mid-Muromachi period, receiving high praise. Every day from sunset until 10 PM, there is a nighttime illumination that showcases a completely different appearance from that of the daytime. Another must-see highlight is the "Makuriryūtei," which is a replica of the gathering place for famous figures from the Bakumatsu period, such as Saigō Takamori and Ōkubo Toshimichi from the Satsuma Domain, and Kido Takayoshi from the Chōshū Domain. Additionally, there are several other historical sites related to the Meiji Restoration, including the tea room "Rōsandō," where the 13th lord of Chōshū, Mōri Motonari, held secret discussions with various individuals of different statuses. Furthermore, Kōyama Park is also a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, azaleas, and hydrangeas, offering enchanting scenery that changes with the seasons.
