📝 Introduction

📖 Details

Introducing the museum dedicated to D. T. Suzuki, the globally renowned Buddhist philosopher born in Kanazawa, which showcases his perspectives, thoughts, and life. The museum opened on October 18, 2011 (D. T. Suzuki's birthday), with the hope that it would serve as a place for visitors to understand Suzuki while also exploring themselves. Although located in the city, the interior of the museum is remarkably quiet, allowing visitors to forget the passage of time. Designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Yoshio Taniguchi, the building consists of three sections: the "Entrance Hall," the "Exhibition Hall," and the "Contemplation Space," along with three gardens: the "Entrance Garden," the "Courtyard Garden," and the "Water Mirror Garden." All sections and gardens are connected by corridors, allowing for a leisurely exploration. Additionally, there are three spaces: the "Exhibition Space," the "Learning Space," and the "Contemplation Space," designed to guide visitors through a sequence of books, photographs, and works, enabling them to understand D. T. Suzuki, learn his thoughts, and ultimately explore themselves. During events, there may be nighttime lighting, offering a chance to appreciate a dreamlike scenery different from the usual. Furthermore, there is a morning activity called "Asaasa - Encouragement of Thought," held every two months, where participants can enjoy a peaceful morning.
