🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
The beautiful arch bridge that symbolizes Niigata City.
📖 Details
The beautiful bridge spanning Japan's longest river, the Shinano River. It has a total length of 306.9 meters and a width of 22 meters. Having endured the Niigata earthquake in 1964, it has long supported the spirit of the citizens of Niigata.
The evenly spaced beautiful arches are a characteristic of the Bandai Bridge. The sturdy stone bridge, adorned with granite and marble, adds a unique charm to the overall structure.
The current Bandai Bridge is the third generation of the bridge, completed in 1929 as part of urban modernization efforts, and was designated as an Important Cultural Property in July 2004. It is the second national highway bridge to be designated as an Important Cultural Property, following the Nihonbashi in Tokyo. The bridge features a spacious pedestrian walkway, allowing people to walk across it. At night, when illuminated, the Bandai Bridge becomes even more enchanting against the backdrop of Niigata's streets.
Additionally, the view of the Bandai Bridge from the Shinano River promenade is particularly picturesque. Riding the water shuttle (Shinano River Water Shuttle) that travels along the Shinano River offers a unique experience of passing beneath the Bandai Bridge.
