🗺️ Baohuan Valley

📝 Introduction

The beauty of the valley, where fresh green and red leaves intertwine, is absolutely moving.

📖 Details

The Yamagawa River, flowing through Lake Tazawa and Kakunodate, stretches for 10 kilometers along the valley. It is said that in ancient times, the mountain paths in the area were quite narrow and perilous, requiring people to almost embrace each other to pass through, hence the name "Hōbai Valley." As a renowned scenic spot for fresh greenery and autumn leaves, Hōbai Valley attracts a large number of tourists during its viewing season. The native forests on both banks, waterfalls cascading from the cliffs, and the dreamlike beautiful blue stream have earned it the nickname "The Yabakei of the Tōhoku region." There is a trail connecting to the "Iimura Shonen Monument," featuring numerous scenic spots along the way, including powerful rapids, strange rocks, and various waterfalls. The walking time is about 40 minutes, during which one can also enjoy the refreshing beauty of the valley. The most famous feature of the valley is the "Kaiko Waterfall," known for its beauty that makes visitors turn back to admire it repeatedly—definitely not to be missed. The elegant waterfall scenery intertwined with the surrounding nature is also worth seeing. The view from the 80-meter-long suspension bridge "Kami no Iwa Bridge" at the valley entrance, surrounded by ancient cedars and the solemn atmosphere of the "Hōbai Shrine," is another highlight.
