📖 Details
Walking through the "Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Street," lined with inns, restaurants, and souvenir shops, and passing through the red torii gate and the Zuishin Gate, you ascend the stone steps to find the Hetsunomiya Shrine. Located at the lowest point of Enoshima, it is also known as the Lower Shrine.
Hetsunomiya Shrine was built in 1206 by Minamoto no Sanetomo and is dedicated to the goddess of water and navigation, Tamatsukuri-hime. The current shrine building was constructed during a major renovation in 1976, showcasing the splendid Gongen-zukuri style and the "Mizunokami" family crest on the roof.
The grounds also feature several unique attractions. There is the "Hōan-den," which enshrines Myōon Benzaiten and Hachihon Benzaiten, and the "Kane-washihaku Ryūō," where you can wash coins in the White Dragon Pond and then drop the cleansed coins into the offering box to have your wishes granted. Additionally, there is the "Chōkō," where you can touch and make wishes, believing that your desires will come true.
