⛩️ Takigami Shrine

📝 Introduction

The shrine grounds once had a waterfall with abundant spring water.

📖 Details

The water flow of the Takigami Shrine waterfall has significantly decreased now, but long ago, due to the continuous flow of clear spring water from the waterfall on the east side of the shrine, it was known as "Waterfall Shrine" and was a place for travelers to cool off and quench their thirst. In the past, before the "Kurayami Matsuri" horse racing ceremony held on May 3rd, jockeys would bathe in the spring water here and wash their racehorses. Because of this, many jockeys' signatures are enshrined within the shrine. Next to the torii gate stands a robust and majestic zelkova tree, which is revered as a sacred tree. It has also been selected as one of Fuchu's 100 Famous Trees.

⭐ Highlights

There are many famous racehorse jockey signatures on display. The waterfall is now enclosed with protective barriers, and almost no spring water flows out anymore. Next to the torii gate is a famous beech tree.
