⛩️ Yasaka Shrine (Enoshima)

📝 Introduction

The shrine building is a copper-roofed irimoya-zukuri style, and it is a subordinate shrine of the Enoshima Shrine.

📖 Details

Located in the heart of Benjin Shrine, Yasaka Shrine is the subordinate deity of Enoshima Shrine, dedicated to the worship of Takehayasusa no Mikoto. The sacred object was originally enshrined across the river in Koshigoe but was washed away by waves and submerged in the sea. It was later retrieved by fishermen and enshrined in Enoshima. The ginkgo tree opposite the shrine has two trunks with interconnected roots, believed to attract good relationships, and many ema (votive plaques) are tied nearby. It is a popular romantic energy spot among female visitors. The "Enoshima Tenno Festival," held every July, is one of the "50 Selected Festivals of Kanagawa" and is listed as an important intangible folk cultural asset of Fujisawa City. During the festival, there is a procession called "Umikake," where a portable shrine is carried through the sea accompanied by loud shouts, and the Enoshima Bayashi, featuring instruments like flutes, drums, shamisen, and summer shaku-hachi, parades around the island, enveloping Enoshima in a lively atmosphere.
