🗺️ Gotanda Shopping Street
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
A shopping street that offers a glimpse into the simple life of Japan.
📖 Details
After exiting the west exit of JR Gotanda Station, you will immediately see the Meguro River, famous for its cherry blossom trees on both sides. This area is home to the Gotanda shopping street, which boasts around 50 dining establishments and 20 shops. It features the latest cafes as well as stores that have been renovated from hotels that opened during the Taisho era, creating a nostalgic atmosphere with a mix of old and new businesses.
Following the post-war recovery period, many shops and dining establishments sprang up around the Gotanda shopping street, which even included a cinema at the time, turning it into a bustling commercial area. To facilitate management, the Gotanda Shopping Street Promotion Association was established in 1965 (Showa 40), and various events have been held in line with the changing times.
Today, the shopping street not only includes cafes, izakayas, and ramen shops but also several drugstores and supermarkets, closely integrating with the lives of local residents. Strolling through, you can experience the most genuine aspects of daily life in Japan.
