📝 Introduction

The shrine located at a corner of Odawara Castle enshrines the deity Ninomiya Sontoku.

📖 Details

The shrine built in Meiji 27 (1894) is located within the ruins of a castle in "Odawara," the birthplace of Ninomiya Sontoku. The deity enshrined here, Ninomiya Sontoku, was known by his childhood name, Kinjirō. Along the approach to the shrine, you can see a statue of him carrying firewood while reading as he walks. As he grew up, he dedicated himself to financial reform, rural revitalization, and civil engineering, becoming a great figure who helped many escape poverty. This historic shrine is said to bless wishes related to academic success, qualifications, business, and wealth. As you walk along the approach surrounded by trees, you will come across the solemn shrine hall. After purifying your hands at the temizuya, you ascend the stone steps and pass through the torii gate. On the right side, there is a pond with koi swimming leisurely, while on the left, numerous ema (votive tablets) hang, suggesting that you can buy an ema after your visit to write down your wishes. This place is also used for wedding ceremonies, and you may occasionally see brides dressed in traditional Japanese wedding attire. Within the grounds, there is a "Kinjirō Café." It’s a good idea to relax in this stylish café surrounded by greenery, enjoying a cup of coffee or locally harvested citrus juice.
