📖 Details
Shibamata Taishakuten, officially named "Keiunzan Daikyouji," was established in 1629 and is a historic Nichiren sect temple. It is said that the statue of Taishakuten, the temple’s principal deity, was personally carved by Saint Nichiren. Taishakuten is one of the guardian deities in Buddhism. The temple grounds feature a "Sculpture Gallery" displaying carving works that express the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, as well as the elegant and beautiful Japanese garden "Suikeien." Shibamata Taishakuten is also known as a filming location for the movie "Tora-san's Crazy Romance" and has appeared in the famous manga "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo." The approach to the temple, stretching from the nearby Shibamata Station, is lined with traditional wooden shops, exuding a nostalgic atmosphere. Every day, many visitors come to admire its beauty, making it a bustling place.

On every "Kōshin no Hi," held every 60 days, you can enter the "Teishakudō" to pay homage to the main deity.
The vibrant shopping street along the approach is filled with various shops, including rice dumpling shops and senbei (rice cracker) shops.
