Since its establishment, Tohoku University has accumulated many precious specimens and remarkable inventions, which are referred to as the "treasures of the university." To manage these resources comprehensively and pass them on to the local community, the "Tohoku University Museum of Comprehensive Academic Studies" was specially constructed. The permanent exhibition features about 1,200 specimens of fossils, rocks, and minerals, showcasing various exhibits categorized by academic discipline. In the "Evolution of Earth Life" section, fossils from the Precambrian to the Neogene and Quaternary periods are displayed according to their age, while the "Rocks and Minerals that Formed the Earth" section presents the rocks and minerals that constitute the Earth. In addition to the permanent exhibition, special exhibitions are also held. These include a series of planned exhibitions introducing the university's latest research and exhibitions related to Sendai City, with much of the content focusing on information surrounding the university, which is one of its unique features. Furthermore, exhibitions co-planned with other institutions or facilities showcase a broader range of academic specimens, offering rich and interesting content. Online special projects, exhibitions, and videos explaining the geology of the Sendai area have also been launched on YouTube, and they are being broadcast on X (formerly Twitter).
