Ueno Tōshō-gū is located within Ueno Onshi Park and is a shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo Shogunate (1603-1867) and its first shōgun. The highlight of the shrine is the resplendent main hall known as the "Kinsakuden" (金色殿), which is designated as an important cultural asset by the country. The outer walls of the hall are adorned with luxurious carvings and decorations. In addition, there are several other national important cultural assets, including the Karakuri Gate (唐門) and 48 bronze lanterns. Notably, within the shrine grounds, "Eikō Kongen-sha" (榮譽權現社) is revered as a deity for blessings related to passing exams, achieving job success, or winning competitions, making it popular among the local community. The shrine also features a "Peony Garden" (牡丹苑) that boasts a variety of peony species, making it possible to admire beautiful peonies in both spring and winter.

In the "牡丹苑" (Botan-en) within the grounds, beautiful peony flowers can be admired in both spring and winter (with an admission fee). Every year, many students visit the "榮譽權現社" (Eiyo Kongen-sha) to pray for success in their exams.
