📖 Details
Chūji Chaya Honpo is a long-established grilled bun shop founded in Showa 35 (1960). Grilled buns are a traditional food from Gunma Prefecture, made by skewering steamed buns on bamboo sticks and grilling them with a thick, sweet miso sauce made from brown sugar and syrup.
The shop is located in a renovated old house of the Edo period samurai "Kunitachi Chūji" (real name Nishinome Uemon), featuring a sunken hearth that creates a nostalgic and relaxing atmosphere.
Chūji Chaya's grilled buns are larger in size, made from fluffy and soft white buns using special flour, generously coated with a homemade sauce made from miso and sugar, resulting in a variety of sweet and savory flavors. Other offerings include "Sake Manju," which are buns filled with red bean paste, and "Dōsha Grilled Manju," which are sake buns grilled after being dipped in the homemade sauce.
Additionally, the 21st of each month (excluding Tuesdays and national holidays) is "Chūji's Death Anniversary," a special sale day for grilled buns. On this day, you can buy 5 skewers of grilled buns for just 400 yen, making it a great deal.
