🗺️ Maizuru Brick Park

📝 Introduction

Transform old naval warehouses and other buildings into highly photogenic composite facilities.

📖 Details

The eight red brick warehouse buildings located in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, were originally used as torpedo storage by the navy. All eight buildings are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, with Building No. 1 being the oldest existing reinforced concrete structure, which has been preserved for use today. The entire block is very photogenic and is often used for filming movies and TV dramas. In Maizuru Red Brick Park, these red brick warehouses have been transformed into a complex facility that includes rental spaces for events, shops, restaurants, and co-working spaces, offering a rich variety of functions. The "Red Brick Museum" within the park allows visitors to learn about the history of red bricks through exhibits showcasing various types of red bricks used in buildings around the world. There are many noteworthy displays introducing world-renowned red brick architecture and a section modeled after the Hoffman kiln. Among them, the "Maizuru Maritime Self-Defense Force Curry" served at the "Building No. 5 Café" recreates the authentic navy curry enjoyed by the members of the Maritime Self-Defense Force aboard the escort ship "Fuyuzuki." Additionally, "Sakana Terrace," which focuses on takeout meals, is popular for its easy access to fresh seafood dishes from Maizuru. Furthermore, the "Red Brick SHOP" within the park features a wide array of Maizuru souvenirs and products from the northern Kinki region and the Wakasa area. Curry cooking kits and merchandise related to the Maritime Self-Defense Force are also bestsellers.
