🗺️ Oita Perfume Museum

Opened in 2007, this unique museum was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Beppu University and is themed around "fragrance." Through numerous precious exhibits, it explores the inseparable relationship between humanity and scent throughout history. The first-floor exhibition room, "Fragrance Product Gallery," showcases a large collection of perfumes, presenting an astonishing scene where perfumes from both ancient and modern times, as well as from the East and West, come together. The second-floor exhibition room, "Fragrance History Gallery," introduces the history of perfume from the birth of civilization to the present day, organized by region and era. It also features perfume bottles from the Rococo and Art Nouveau periods, along with contemporary clothing and furniture, all of which showcase exquisite design worth seeing. In the experience classroom, visitors can create their own unique original perfume or scented sachet (for a fee and by reservation) as a travel memento. Additionally, there is a herbal garden where one can enjoy a natural hot spring foot bath amidst the fragrant herbs of the four seasons, as well as a café and shop.
