🗺️ Kurobe Gorge SELENE Art Museum

📝 Introduction

A painting themed around "The Nature of the Kurobe Gorge."

📖 Details

The SELENE Museum is located in the "Unazuki Onsen Town" of the Kurobe Gorge. With the philosophy of "passing on the nature of Kurobe Gorge to the future through the art of painting," it showcases works by seven contemporary Japanese artists. These pieces are specially created by the artists, inspired by the Kurobe Gorge. The participating artists are Ikuo Hirayama, Hideo Shiodome, Akito Fukui, Toshio Tabuchi, Koichi Takeuchi, Yuji Tezuka, and Masaaki Miyamawari. They personally visited various locations, including the Kurobe Gorge, for inspiration, guided by mountain tour guides and museum staff. Through the artists' perspectives, the natural beauty of Kurobe Gorge is presented, revealing an aesthetic and charm that is distinctly different from the actual valley. In addition to the works of the seven artists, a large piece titled "Kurobe River" by Yoshinobu Kato, a painter originally from Unazuki Town who currently resides in France, is also on permanent display in the museum. The museum is located within the "Kurobe City Art Creation Center SELENE," and the attached café offers rich coffee and tea brewed with Kurobe's famous spring water.
